The intention of the project is to form a cluster of manufacturers and retailers that are based in the Rockhampton region.
Once the participants are chosen, an initial meeting will be conducted, where the project’s objectives will be communicated in more detail, along with the way in which the project will be carried out. Expectations of each business will be discussed, as well as potential targets we would like to achieve.
Once the initial meeting is complete, each business will be audited. This will involve the Cluster leader visiting each business and deciding in conjunction with the business owner, which key environmental indicators will be monitored for their respective business. They will vary slightly, depending on the type of business. Once this is done, the key indicators will be documented, measured and recorded.
A target for each cluster member will be developed, documented and recorded.
From this point, bi-monthly checks will be conducted with all participants. The Cluster leader will visit each site individually and note any changes in behaviour of business’ staff, changes to management style and if there is an increase in general environmental awareness. As well as hard data being measured, changes in attitudes will be taken into account.
This information will be communicated to participants at a regular bi-monthly meeting. Participants will have an opportunity to view their progress, as well as talk to other business owners about any changes they may be making.
At the end of the project, the final report will be presented to the group. Here we will present a progress chart for each respective business, as well as a combined performance. Overall and individual changes in greenhouse outputs, waste levels, waste efficiency and water use will be presented to the group.
It is expected that there will be a genuine and consistent increase in knowledge amongst business owners as to how to improve energy, water and waste efficiency.
The project commenced in July 2009 and is expected to be completed by January 2010.
