Ergon Energy Tidy Town
Towns throughout Queensland have the opportunity to enter the Ergon Energy Tidy Towns program for 2010, and showcase their ‘clean and green’ credentials to Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland’s judges who will visit in April.
Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland is seeking entrants who have gone beyond “clean and green” and are looking for innovative and novel approaches which make town’s friendly, welcoming and vibrant communities capable of winning a global award.
Each year hundreds of Queensland towns and city communities vie for the prestigious title of Queensland’s Tidiest Town. The winner enters the national competition and can become Australia’s Tidiest Town.
“It’s important to ensure that those that enter the competition understand that judges take into consideration every community’s geographic, environmental, cultural and economic circumstances, and assess how efficiently and effectively the community uses the resources available to it in each award category,” said Chairman of Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland, Emeritus Professor Tor Hundloe.
Ergon Energy is again sponsoring the Energy Conservation Award this year encouraging communities to work towards sustainability through becoming more energy efficient. The major prize for this award is a full energy audit for a local community facility in the winning town.
For the town that wins the title of Queensland’s Tidiest, Ergon Energy will be sponsoring a community celebration event to mark the town's achievement.
As well as the title of Queensland’s Tidiest Town, entrants compete for eleven outstanding achievement awards, including the Friendliest Town Award, Resource Recovery Award and Queensland Young Legends Award.
